Window Design for Rooms
Kitchen
Cooking up great decorating ideas for your kitchen.
Every home has a kitchen. Yet it may be the one room that is ignored
most often from a decorating standpoint. It is true that the activities
that take place in a kitchen create a unique challenge for decorating
the windows. Food preparations can quickly turn a new window treatment
into a sticky mess.
Low maintenance and Cleanable.
Kitchen windows are most commonly located at or around the sink
area. Splashes from the sink and grease from the stove are a window
treatments worst nightmare. Working around these activities when
considering your window treatments is a must. You should be sure
that any fabrics you choose are washable. Blinds or shades should
also be cleanable with a sponge and some soapy water.
The look of wood – without the drawbacks.
Real wood can warp, swell or crack in high moisture conditions
and the finish is at its highest risk in the kitchen area. The
solutions is composite materials that have been developed to be
much more resilient while maintaining the look of real wood. Shutters
and horizontal wood blinds have been created with this composite
material to address these demanding environments. These products
should also be considered for bathroom areas where steam can damage
real wood.
Fabric in the kitchen – choose it wisely.
If a fabric treatment is desired, avoid treatments that are long
on sides. Try not to choose a treatment that ends any closer than
24 inches from the sink to avoid splashes. Silks, satins and moiré should
be avoided. Delicate fabrics don’t stand up well to water
and can be lifeless after just a few dry-cleanings. Aim for machine
washable fabrics that can easily be cleaned and returned to the
window without shrinking or puckering.
