What if I make a mistake?
When you plan and educate yourself, mistakes are less likely –
especially if you have confidence in your decorating skill. On the
other hand, you are right to be concerned. Mistakes are costly. They
take a lot of time to make right. Sometimes it is not affordable or
feasible to re-do an error. For example, wrong measurements, wrong
color, or fabric design can be heart breaking and costly, if the product
is custom draperies. Usually, they are not returnable. The investment
may require that you live with an unpleasant decision for years.
Colors – be sure to see them in your own home
Color mistakes are easy to make. Colors vary and change from store
lighting to your actual lighting at home. Fabrics and colors need
to be seen in the rooms where they will be used – both during
daylight, and evening hours. Your lighting conditions are critical
when it comes to getting the look you want at your window.
Stock products may be returnable
On the other hand, if it is a stock product, like ready-made draperies,
stock blinds or window shades, chances are they are returnable. When

If you do purchase from a design professional or a reputable window
coverings specialist, they will likely back up their work and try
to make you happy – even if it costs them money out of pocket.
Your good will and referral to others are key to their success.
So, be sure to weigh your options – from doing it yourself to
working with a professional! The risk of a cruel mistake should be
