INTRODUCTION TO WINDOW COVERINGS
How do I choose a designer?
Working with a window fashions designer is a matter of “chemistry”
and competence. Many designers are thoughtful, caring AND competent.
Interviewing and selecting a designer should be a process of bringing
a trusted person into your confidence. Little clues will help you
decide. Have you heard about the designer from a friend? Have you
visited their studio or store? Do they have a website? Can you view
their philosophy and learn about their services on the Internet? Do
they have a portfolio of work they have done for others?
With today's overwhelming choices in home furnishings, a design professional
is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. Here are a few tips to help
you truly enjoy working with a decorator of your choice.
* Do your homework. What are your color preferences? Styles? Basic
priorities?
* Look through magazines. What catches your eye?
* Give some thought to your budget. This guideline will save you lots
of valuable time.
* Think about your needs and your decorating desires for your room.
Most of all, meet your designer in a comfortable setting at their
store or in your home. Invite the design consultant to your home.
Let them know you are looking for someone you can feel comfortable
with. Tell the designer you are not looking for free ideas, but you
are looking for someone you will enjoy working with over time. Expect
them to meet you without a charge for a “get-acquainted”
visit. Then you can ask about their policies and fees. You can find
whether they sell products or provide a shopping and consultation
service on an hourly basis.
After you interview two or three designers, you will feel the right
way about the right one for you. Working with a professional can be
a pleasurable experience and save a lot of money by avoiding costly
mistakes. |
