INTRODUCTION TO WINDOW COVERINGS
Name Brand vs. Private Label
In the wonderful world of window coverings, there are thousands of
fabrics available to today's homeowners. Some leading brand name manufacturers
may sell directly to consumers – Waverly, Laura Ashley, and
Martha Stewart, for example. Look on their website to find their policies.
Other fabric companies only sell to the trade. These fabric businesses
may design, “convert”, and print fabric, then sell only
through design professionals. You may not have heard of these companies,
but they may be of highest quality. The possibilities are limitless
when you work with a professional who has access to these companies.
Private label fabrics may or may not be your assurance of top quality.
If you do not know the brand, look at the design, feel the weight
and quality. Your own sense will be very accurate. If it feels and
looks like top quality, chances are that it is. When it comes to non-fabric
window coverings such as blinds, shadings, shutters, and verticals,
branding is much more important. You may not feel or see differences
that are critical for durability and good service. Look to brand name
manufacturers for these products.
Remember, name brand manufacturers back their products with their
reputation and costly advertising. They invest dollars in making consumers
"aware" of their name and reputation. They do not want to
jeopardize the reputation they invest so much to build.
Do your homework. Get professional advice. Then choose the products,
brands, and services that feel right to you. |
